About Natir - Natural Ecosystems and Community Well-being
“NATIR” means nature. Founded in 2022 in Mauritius, we now work across the Indian Ocean with local NGOs to restore landscapes, protect species, and place communities at the heart of conservation — led by local leaders committed to change.

Restoring ecosystems with a focus on benefiting local communities and ensuring conservation directly supports human well-being.
Thriving ecosystems offer vital services like clean air, fresh water, and fertile soil, essential for human health and prosperity. By actively restoring and rehabilitating degraded ecosystems, we aim to make a positive impact on the community, fostering environmental sustainability and enhancing residents' quality of life.
Recognizing the essential services thriving ecosystems provide, we collaborate with local institutions, empowering leaders and communities for ecosystem restoration. Our collaborative approach extends to broader Indian Ocean Islands, including places like Madagascar and the Comoros, ensuring our impact transcends borders.
The core mission of NATIR is to restore ecosystems while simultaneously securing positive human well-being outcomes. Our mission is driven by the belief that the health and vitality of natural ecosystems are intrinsically linked to the well-being of communities. We are dedicated to revitalizing and safeguarding local ecosystems, particularly in Mauritius, by employing sustainable restoration practices.
At NATIR, we recognize that thriving ecosystems provide essential services to communities, such as clean air, fresh water, and fertile soil, which are fundamental for human health and prosperity. By actively working to restore and rehabilitate degraded ecosystems, we aim to create a positive difference in the community by fostering environmental sustainability and enhancing the quality of life for residents.
Through our restoration efforts, we not only strive to conserve biodiversity and protect native species but also promote ecological resilience. Our approach includes collaborating with government bodies like NPCS and the Forestry Service in Mauritius to achieve common conservation objectives.
In addition to our local initiatives, NATIR has extended its vision to encompass the broader Indian Ocean Islands. We collaborate with local institutions, empowering local leaders and communities to restore degraded ecosystem in places like Madagascar and the Comoros. This collaborative approach ensures that our impact reaches beyond borders, benefiting ecosystems and communities across the region.
In summary, NATIR’s core mission revolves around the dual goals of ecosystem restoration and enhancing human well-being. By nurturing the natural environment and engaging communities, we aspire to create a sustainable and harmonious future for all.
